What do these numbers mean?

Alert level

The escalation ladder: None → Watch (building) → Warning (onset likely, ~15–45 min) → Alert (underway). The worst level across your stations drives the banner.

Voltage-drop risk (0–100)

A relative stress score, higher = worse. It is not a calibrated kV figure — a convenience number that blends the ground field, local activity, and storm proximity.

Ground E-field (V/km)

The storm-driven electric field in the ground. Multiply by a line's length to get the voltage it pushes onto that line — e.g. 2 V/km over 100 km ≈ 200 V.

Induced voltage (V)

The end-to-end voltage the storm impresses on a specific line (E-field integrated along its whole length). This is what drives current into transformers.

GIC — A per phase

Geomagnetically Induced Current: the slow, quasi-DC current the induced voltage pushes through transformer windings. Flagged against the NERC 75 / 85 A-per-phase screening benchmarks.

Field change (nT/s)

How fast the local magnetic field is changing (nanotesla per second). Faster change drives a larger ground E-field.

Transformer saturation

Whether conditions could push transformer cores into saturation (heating + harmonics). A coarse indicator, not a per-unit prediction.

Epicenter · intensity

The peak-activity point of the storm and its 0–10 strength. The closer and stronger, the more the field over Alberta.

Current storm

A snapshot of the space-weather driving the grid right now. Peak E-field is the strongest ground field across the network.
